Selangor - Batam to Boost Tourism Ties

Tourism Selangor (TSSB) together with Indonesia Ministry of Tourism and Batam View Beach Resort connects businesses from the state of Selangor and Indonesia in a B2B Table Top discussion.

Held at the Batam View Beach Resort, the programme starting from 15 to 17 November is headed by YB Madam Gan Pei Nei, Deputy Chairman of Selangor’s Committee of Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs.

The event at the famous Batam Island provides 17 participants that came from various travel agencies, government agencies, hoteliers, health and wellness operators, and education sections in Selangor (sellers) to connect with travel industry associates from Indonesia (buyers). Each seller will be give one presentation slot for a total of five minutes to give to the tourism agencies present at the event.


Tourism Selangor has arranged three sessions for the business event – including a Government to Goverment (G to G) Table Talk session with Tourism Indonesia about the direction and goals of tourism between Selangor and Indonesia. The event’s highlight is the B2B Table Top between Selangor and Indonesia’s tourism agencies and a visit around Batam Island as part of the tourism product. 


Some of the key persons attending from Indonesia Tourism are Ibu Rizky Handayani, Director for MICE and Special Interest Promotion at the Ministry for Tourism and Creative Economy, Bapak Guntur Sakti, the Head of Tourism of Riau Islands Province, and stakeholders in hospitality industry such as resorts, aviation, golf courses and travel agents.


The three day B2B Table Top event include business minded individuals of various companies from Aceh, Western Sumatra, Riau Islands, Jakarta, and Jogjakarta.


“Selangor’s tourism industry still has a lot of potential for development and can be explored even further, particularly with our counterparts here in Indonesia.  In our quest to be an active and thriving tourism industry, we at Tourism Selangor and the Selangor government are supportive of all efforts by our local industry players to develop the attractive products available at our home,” said YB Madam Gan Pei Nei, Deputy Chairman of Selangor’s Committee of Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs.

The three-day visitation was filled with trails of programs. On the first day the Selangor delegation visited some of the tourism hot-spots in Batam, such as Destination Nongsa, Golden City in Bengkong area, and Megamall in Batam Centre.

With at least 1,4 million foreign visitors, Batam Island is a promising destination for Malaysian market. Its strategic location next to the neighboring busy Singapore are very accessible, with 4 international ferry ports and one international airport made the island Indonesia's third largest contributor for foreign tourist, after Bali and Jakarta.


The meeting was also aimed to introduce Batam Island to Malaysian market, get them up close and experience the attractions it offers, from shopping, golf-destination, resort, among many. It was expected to start increasing the traffic between Selangor and Batam, besides the direct flight that connected them ease and catalyze growth in the near future.

10th Nongsa Cup 2015 Golf Tournament: "Drink & Drive" in the Tropical Night

Alohaaa...Nongsa Cup is back! This year is the 10th time the one-of-the-most-anticipated golf tournament in the region is held. This year the tournament took "Drink & Drive" as he tagline in which the golfer will have some fun while competing during the tournament. Around 250 golfers from Singapore, Malaysia, Belgium, the UK, South Africa, Australia, Japan and South Korea joined this event

For the tenth consecutive year, Nuevo Vino took part as the main sponsor of the event. Not to mention, the endorsement by the Ministry of Tourism helped boost the publicity and stronger reputation of the tournament amongst the golfer in the region. It was started by the shotgun (balloon release) in the two golf courses, Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort and Tering Bay Golf & Country Club.

The Gala Dinner was at the Poolside area of Batam View Beach Resort with "Tropical Night" taken as the theme. The Dinner was attended by the representative of Nuevo Vino as the main sponsor for the ten consecutive years, the representative of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia which also endorse and support this year's event, Bapak Guntur Sakti as the Head of Tourism Department of Riau Islands Province, colleagues from Destination Nongsa, media, and--of course--the participants.

Live band performance, caddy dancers, magician are among the line-up during dinner. And of course, the Grand Lucky Draw with the first prize of IDR20,050,000 (equal SGD2,015.00) was waiting for the lucky one. Ong Hock See, Singaporean golfer was the lucky one to bring home the cash money of the grand lucky draw. The winner announcement took place at Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort on 9 November 2015. Indonesian golfer, Khozim, came as the Best Gross Overall.

Jointly organized by Batam View, Palm Spings, Tering Bay and BatamFast, Nongsa Cup is one of golf events promoting Batam Island as golf paradise in the region. With all the supports and commitment, the golf tournament has gained popularity and strong reputation year by year and attracted more golfers to challenge themselves.

Get Ready For 10th Nongsa Cup Golf Tournament 2015

Visitation to Batam By Penang Government, Malaysia












18 June 2014 is a very special day as we had a visitation from Penang Government, Malaysia. They will be staying in Batam View Beach Resort from 18-21 June 2015. Lots of programs lining up during their Batam visit. The delegation was led by YB Danny Law Heng Kiang from Penang State Exco for Tourism Development. Among the delegations are from Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, Penang health Association and Penang Centre of Education Tourism.



At 3.30 in the afternoon they had B2B Meeting (Business to Business) with local stakeholders in Batam, from tourism to education. The meeting was attended by Bapak Yusfa Hendri, the Head of Batam Tourism Board which gave the special welcome speech to the delegations from Penang. It was also attended by Bapak Andika (Head of ASITA Kepri), eleven properties from Nongsa Destination, travel agents such as Nusajaya Indofast and from college which is Batam Tourism Polytechnic (BTP). 
The B2B meeting ended up at 5.30 and was continued with Buka Puasa Bersama at the jetty of Kelong Restaurant.


The group’s scheduled to have Batam Tour in which they would experience some attractions of Batam, and visitation to two colleges (Batam Tourism Polytechnic and Universitas International Batam) on 19 June 2015, continued with Penang Fair in Megamall Batam Centre on 20 June 2015.


It was a reciprocal visitation as on last April Batam delegations went to Penang for tourism promotion. The visit was aimed to establish mutual relationship between two islands and to promote each other’s’ potentials amongst its society, and expected to boost business and tourism traffic in the near future.

SSG – Tering Bay International Amateur Championship 2015



With Tering Bay Golf & Country Club as the main organizer, this will be one of the biggest championships in the region. The event itself is scheduled on 6-10 September 2015.  The eligibility is open to amateur golfers with USGA handicap index as following:

Men: 9.00 or lower
Ladies: 12.00 or lower


The schedule of the event will be as following:

6th or 7th September 2015: Practice Round
8th September 2015: First Round Tournament
9th September 2015: Second Round Tournament (Cut off)
10th September 2015: Final Round

Casio Nongsa Cycle 2015: The Next Big Thing



May 9, 2015 was the biggest day for cyclists. Casio Nongsa Cycle 2015 came with three categories, King of the Hill (60km), Raod Blazer (36km) and Wannabe (24km). More than 100 cyclist from the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and sure local cyclists RACED HARD to beat the HARD LOOP in Nongsa, starting from Nongsa Pura Ferry Terminal to the finish line in Batam View Beach Resort.

The Kick-off ceremony was by Bapak Arman Depari as Chief Police of Kepri and Bapak Yusfa Hendri as the Head of Batam Tourism Board.

Here are some snapshots from the morning event, from preparation of the participants to the race.


This is the most challenging and breathtaking part of Casio Nongsa Cycle loop. Slightly more than 40 degrees hiking, the up-the-hill road is just....amazing!



The Celebratory Dinner of Casio Nongsa Cycle 2015 was held at the poolside of Batam View BeachResort. There was medal presentation and podium finishers during the dinner. Bapak Yusfa Hendri from Batam Tourism Board was presenting medals and prizes to all the winners. There was also band performance, Indonesian dance performances and magic show to spice up the night. 

Kobayashi Kei San from Japan won the best lap 60km with the time 17:35:530 and Bapak Oscar Feryanto from ISSI won the Best local rider for 60km

Kategory King of the Hill 60km was conquered successfully by the Japanese cyclist Kobayashi Kei in 1:29:46. The runner up Pilotte Sebastien from Canada and the third place was Nick Swallow.

King of the Hill category 2 was won by the Philippine cyclist  Querimit Augustin Jr with total time of 1:34:41:390. The second and the third place was won by cyclists from Singapore Brian Ng Kian Hiang (1:34:42:785) and Ong Jing Xiang Joven (1:34:42:785).

The race was  expected to be the annual event and by the support of all the stakeholders in the tourism industry, sure it would boost and expose the potencies of Batam as sport destination in the region.

NONGSA CYCLE 2015: The Biggest's Cycling Event for Cyclists in Batam, Singapore and Surrounding Area

Nongsa Cycle 2015 is an inaugural bike race event jointly organized by Ideas Room Consulting and Ace Sports Group, and in partnership with resort operator, Batam View Beach Resort and fast ferry operator, BatamFast. The event is scheduled on May 9, Saturday, in the Nongsa area.

Chief of Police in the Riau province, General Bapak Arman Depari is the guest-of-honor, and Bapak Yusfa Hendri, the head of Batam Tourism Board, will be opening one of the three races.
The 12-km loop in Nongsa climbs 70 meters.  At the end of the race, a great party awaits all.  The event’s tagline is “Race Hard; Party Harder.” There is a non-competitive category for leisure cyclists, too. There are three categories, King of The Hill – 60 km, Road Blazer – 36 km and Wannabe (fun & leisure) – 24 km. Participants can choose to compete as an individual or form a team of four to six cyclists.
Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top eight podium finishers in the individual category and top three in the team category.  In addition, there will be a green jersey award for the best lap time.
Batam View Beach Resort will host a post-ride dinner. Cyclists receive a comprehensive race pack comprising a specially designed “Nongsa Cycle 2015” jersey and other merchandises from sponsors. The evening will include a live performance by a band group.
In the meantime, here are the routes the cyclist will be riding on. Challenging!
